Welcome to the 2025-2026 LEMS Course Registration!
We’re excited to support students and families as they plan for the upcoming school year at Lucile Erwin Middle School! This page provides important information about course registration, academic programs, and key resources to help guide your decisions.
Before registering for courses, we recommend that families check their Annual Family Check-In through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to ensure student enrollment is accurate and up to date. This helps avoid any issues during the registration process.

LEMS Course Guide
Sixth-grade artists will create both two-dimensional (drawing & painting) and three-dimensional art (clay & sculpture), and will learn and apply the elements of art to all work. Students will integrate the IB areas of interaction, MYP art criteria, and the creative process into all units. Students will have the opportunity to express their creativity and communicate by producing art, which reflects their interests and knowledge. No previous art experience is required.

3-D Art courses allow students to take their art ability to the next level. This class offers a wide range of techniques, skills, and the use of several mediums. We create cast arms, masks, clay sculptures, gargoyles, and other three-dimensional works. We will look at different artists and study the techniques they mastered. The class will support each other by providing critical feedback and reflecting on their growth after each unique technique is tried. This class is designed for those students who enjoy art and want to strengthen their technique for high school and college art education classes.

Through three (3) concerts a year a variety of individual and group performance opportunities create principled and critical-thinking musicians. We create a community within our classes as well as provide community and service with outside performances. We believe that music is the ultimate example of Human Ingenuity. Our goal is to promote music as an enjoyable life-long skill. The family is responsible for providing instruments with the exception of some large instruments that are provided by the school. Students wishing to play drums must have two years prior piano music training. Students wishing to play saxophone will start with the clarinet. Feel free to contact the band directors with any questions.

Through three (3) concerts a year, various individual and group performance opportunities create principled and critical-thinking musicians. We create a community within our classes as well as provide community and service with outside performances. We believe that music is the ultimate example of Human Ingenuity. Our goal is to promote music as an enjoyable life-long skill. The family is responsible for providing instruments except for some large instruments that the school provides. This course aims to provide the means and the context to help students become inquirers, thinkers, and open-minded skillful problem solvers through the lens of human ingenuity and the design cycle using information and systems technology. This class will allow students to review and practice keyboarding skills and learn how to use the internet more effectively while learning various desktop publishing programs to produce creative and innovative projects. No previous experience is required.

The Dual Language (DL) Advanced Spanish Language 1 course is a continuation of the Thompson School District Dual Language Program. This required course focuses on the development of language, literacy, and cultural competencies at the Intermediate level of proficiency. Students will express their thoughts, interact with other speakers of the language, and understand oral and written messages in Spanish. There will be a strong emphasis on diverse cultural themes using authentic cultural resources from the many Spanish-speaking countries in the world. All Dual Language courses are taught 100% in Spanish.
Pre-requisites: Participated in the TSD Dual Language K-5 program or by a district-approved Spanish Language proficiency assessment.

It focuses on the development of students' communicative competence, their approaches to learning another language, and their understanding of the cultures of the Francophone world. Students will become risk-takers as they learn to communicate in real-life contexts. An important component of language classes is the use of the language beyond the classroom to apply knowledge of the language in the real world, which in many cases is accomplished through the integration of technology into the classroom. 7th Grade will focus on greetings and leavings, numbers, expressing likes and dislikes, café food, drink and conversation, school supplies and classes, and an introduction to the family.

1A Honors French is an advanced high school-level language course designed for students who demonstrate a strong aptitude for language acquisition. This course will focus on developing proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in French through immersive and engaging activities.
Enrollment:
Enrollment in this course is based on teacher recommendation. If you have not received a recommendation, please speak with one of the language teachers before signing up.

Spanish/French: Intro to World Languages is a one-semester course that offers students an opportunity to begin to learn both French and Spanish at a basic proficiency level before choosing one language for further study in grade 7. Students will perform listening, speaking, reading, and writing 21st century global communicative tasks as they discover the different cultures, including the arts, foods, music, and daily life of the French and Spanish-speaking world. Students will also make connections to other disciplines such as math, history, and science, as well as sharpen their language art skills in their own language. Upon completion of Introduction to World Languages, students can take either French I, Spanish I, or German I class in ninth grade at the high school.

While learning correct performance techniques on their chosen instrument, the student will also gain a basic understanding of music theory, and rhythm. Students will explore the music of cultures from around the world, along with an introduction to the great composers of our Western heritage. Students will begin an MYP developmental workbook in 6th grade to record the process and development of their learning. Sixth-grade orchestra performs three (3) concerts yearly.

Physical Education classes at LEMS are designed to challenge and support students of all abilities and interests. Students are actively engaged in their own learning experiences to become knowledgeable, principled, and balanced. The skills acquired will promote healthy, caring young individuals who will appreciate, respect, and achieve personal well-being for themselves and others. Recognizing strengths and differences of students are monitored and assessed throughout all parts of the curriculum. All students will be encouraged and expected to optimize learning opportunities through a balance of sports and health-related units. Through the lens of Human Ingenuity, students will develop an appreciation for other cultures by participating in team games and activities. The 6th grade curriculum will focus on health-related fitness knowledge, which will include methods of training principles (healthy lifestyles) and sports participation.
