International Baccalaureate
At Lucile Erwin Middle School, we are proud to be an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The International Baccalaureate’s mission is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are prepared to create a more peaceful and connected world through understanding and respect.
At LEMS, this mission comes to life in a welcoming, inclusive environment where every student is encouraged to explore, question, and grow. Our IB program helps students see learning as more than classroom lessons—it’s about making connections to the wider world, understanding different perspectives, and becoming compassionate leaders in our community.
The MYP curriculum is built around three core ideas:
- Intercultural Awareness – valuing diverse perspectives and experiences.
- Holistic Education – nurturing academic, personal, and social growth.
- Communication – building skills to express ideas and collaborate with others.
Students engage with eight subject groups—language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, mathematics, sciences, design/technology, arts, and physical education. Each unit begins with a guiding question that invites students to think critically, make connections, and apply their learning in meaningful ways.
In their final year, Wildcats complete a personal project, where they dive deeply into a topic of interest, demonstrating not just what they’ve learned but who they are becoming as learners and leaders.
At LEMS, IB is not just a program—it’s part of how we help all students ROAR into middle school and beyond with confidence, curiosity, and compassion.
